Microsoft Office 2007 Help

Dell Optiplex 755 compter & flat screen monitor

Staley Upper Elementary has two computers labs,  Room 320 and Room 502.  Lab 320 is used mainly for regular scheduled computer time.  Lab 502 has 3 regular scheduled classes on day 1 which are periods 1, 3, 5. The rest of the is for extra time with special projects or with the new STEM Program etc.

There are a variety of software programs to choose from.  We offer Math, Reading, Science and Music software.  There is typing programs for the students to build up their typing kills and Printshop and Powerpoint for students to be creative with.

There is also special programs taht can be accessed from home.  Study Island, Learning.com and STEM or your child will call it Dimension U.  Study Island works with writing and math and can be done in a test mode format or a game format.  Learning.com works with most of school subjects but also includes items like internet safety cyber bulling and technology.  DimensionU at this time only works with math and literature.  This is done in a game format.

If you would like to know more about Study Island or DimensionU (STEM) on Staleys main page click on the Software Overview link.

What's New in Technology

This year your many of the students will be introduced to new technology.  Besides the new DimensionU software program, they will using Apple equipment.  We are getting MacBook carts, IPAD carts, and IPOD carts through various grants.

The grant requires this equipment to incorporated into the classroom curriculum. Students will be involved in researching information, collecting data and using that information to create documents, presentations, animations etc.

Microsoft Office Package

Rome City School District (RCSD) uses Microsoft Office 2007 at Staley, Strough and RFA.  Elementary are still using Microsoft Office 2003.  Office includes Microsoft Word for word processing, Microsoft Excel shreadsheet software, Microsoft Power Point presentation software, Microsoft Publisher publishing software used for cards, posters, banners, etc., and Microsoft Access datatbase software.

Students in the district use Word and Power Point mostly during classes.  It depends on ciriculum and staff what they will use.  Such as an Intro to Computers class would be introduced to all the software package, where an English Class would mainly use Word, or Math class mainly Excell.  Power point would be used in conjunction with research for a report and even an oral presentation.

Office 2007 has a lot of changes to it.  At top of this page is a link that can help you adapt to the newer version.

Bringing in homework from home

Many times a student or staff member has come to one of the techs in the district and said my student did their homework at home but we can't open it here in the school computers.

Most of the time it is an issue with different version of software.  Such as school has version 2003 and parents machine is using 2007 or 2010.  Software can read early versions but not newer versions, such as 2007 or 2010 can read 2003 or early but 2003 CAN'T read 2007.

However to the left if you click on the "How to Help Files" and follow the directions for "Save as Type" .  This should help you.

If your not sure of what version you have open your software and in the menu bar at the top of the page click on the Help tab, then from the drop down menu select about name of software example.  If you were using Word it would say About Microsoft Word.

Feel free to email me also using the contact form to the left of page.
