Rome Free Academy has a rich educational history and heritage. In fact, the original Rome Free Academy was established more than one hundred and fifty years ago. During that time thousands of students have graduated from RFA and have distinguished themselves in a wide variety of occupations and interests.
Today's Rome Free Academy , located on the former Griffiss Air Force Base, is a modern state of the art secondary school. Opened in September 2002, the attractive and spacious facility currently enrolls 1,720 students, grades 9-12 with an estimated capacity of 2,100 youngsters. A highly trained faculty and staff have the major responsibility of providing the necessary instruction and guidance for our young people in both academic and extra/co-curricular activities. RFA has never deviated from its early roots, namely its committment "to develop the talent of each student who, in turn, contributes to the general welfare." That purpose drives all we do in regards to academic, social, and personal goals. To reach those goals, student responsibility is critical. In that light, students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner which reflects credit upon themselves, their families, and their school.
One of the key ingredients in student success is strong parental involvement in the child's educational program. We urge parents to become involved in school activities. Do not be reluctant to call your youngster's guidance counselor and teachers if you have a question or a concern. RFA is a caring community that takes great pride in the success of its students, both present and former. The school and the family working together can help ensure student success.
